Project 10 Productions Announces 2023/24 Development Slate

TORONTO (July 4, 2023) – Following the recent announcement of Shonna Foster as Director of Development, Canada’s Project 10 Productions revealed today its initial 2023/24 development slate featuring eight new scripted series from an incredible lineup of emerging and established Canadian talent. The company, which specializes in scripted comedy, has partnered on projects ranging from autobiographical storytelling to innovative original concepts to digital adaptations, with many focusing on the humour to be found in Canada’s dynamic multiculturalism. Several are in development with broadcasters already.

APRÉS SKI
From creator Kathleen Robertson (BEVERLY HILLS 90210, SWIMMING WITH SHARKS) and executive producer Chris Cowles (BLOCKERS), comes the scripted, one-hour drama APRÉS SKI. Currently in development with CBC, the complex and explosive character-driven series takes place at a family-owned private resort.

THE GOOD NEWS
THE GOOD NEWS is a scripted half-hour comedy series created by RUN THE BURBS’ and BOLLYWED’s Maninder Chana. The series follows a brash, young, inexperienced millennial who clashes with her newly hired, hard-headed, Gen-X-er boss at a multimedia news station, as she aspires to be taken seriously as a journalist.
HIGH NORTH
HIGH NORTH brings together SCHITT’S CREEK’s Dustin Milligan and LITTLE BIRD’S Jennifer Podemski for a scripted half-hour comedy series set in the Northwest Territories. When a premenopausal housewife facing a mid-life crisis runs away from Toronto and ends up in Yellowknife, she befriends a 35-year-old struggling single dad and wannabe rapper, who is selling weed to pay the bills and facing a life crisis of his own. Brought together by chance, these two strangers form an unlikely friendship that reveals a hilarious, heartfelt story about identity and belonging. As they take one step forward and two steps back on their intersecting journeys of self-discovery, they become a family along the way.

HITMAN
Based on Bret “The Hitman” Hart’s #1 national bestselling autobiography, HITMAN follows the story of his upbringing among Calgary’s first family of wrestling, his awkward initial attempts at professional wrestling, and his struggle to rise through the ranks of the WWF to become the World Heavyweight Champion. The scripted one-hour series is created by Hart with Robyn Louie attached as co-creator and producer.

THE ORANGE
From father-son team Dave (SCTV) and Harrison (BETTER CALL SAUL) Thomas, THE ORANGE is a scripted half-hour dark comedy currently in development with CBC and BBC Studios. A family’s lives are turned upside down after they witness a gangland bombing and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police place them in a witness protection program in Rye, England. Things get even more complicated when the family discovers that the Mounties have been dumping all their witnesses in Rye, and now they are living next door to some of Canada’s most-hardened criminals. THE ORANGE is a comical descent into the world of crime as the family’s new friends and their need to survive blurs the lines between right and wrong.

RADIO BINGO
Created by Emmy Award winner Shelby Mitchell-Adams (CORNHUSK) and based on her award-winning short film of the same name, RADIO BINGO is a scripted half-hour comedy executive produced by Steven Hoffner (The Cannons). After being fired from her high-profile job in Toronto, Sage Goodleaf, a foul-mouthed radio DJ, moves back to the Indigenous reserve of Akwesasne to take care of her misfit father. In the process, she attempts to reboot her career at a struggling radio station that is utilizing a popular game to help save the business: radio bingo!

REVENGE OF THE BLACK BEST FRIEND
From multi-disciplined award-winning creator Amanda Parris (EXHIBITIONISTS, The Death Doula) and executive produced by Jonas Diamond (CORNER GAS ANIMATED, SAVE ME) and Julian De Zotti (FOR THE RECORD), REVENGE OF THE BLACK BEST FRIEND follows Dr. Toni Shakur, a self-help guru on the rise, whose self-proclaimed mission is to cancel the entertainment industry’s reliance on token Black characters… before she gets cancelled herself. The show is based on the digital series of the same title which had a successful world premiere at Canneseries. SQUAWKING CHICKEN
